The following article is perhaps my last one this year as I will be absent from the forum for a month or so. I am leaving for the States tomorrow. I will surely continue to post articles when I come back. Wish everybody a very Merry Charistmas and Happy New Year!------------------------------------------------------------------------------My wife returned home yesterday in low spirits after attending a reunion party with her former classmates. In fact, she looked depressed. I kept asking what had happened. She finally revealed that she felt a little bit embarrassed when her former classmates asked her what she did for living because she has stayed at home taking care of my daughter for 5 years now.“Yehh, ”my wife sighed, “ 5 years up to now, just because of Anny… “ it is not good to be out of job.. I lost contact with many friends… I even forgot I am a college graduate myself…” But darling, in my eyes you have not been jobless for one single day. “ How come?” She asked. “Well, I think being a mother is a job and THE most important and honorable one in the world” ,I said. “ You really feel that way or just try to comfort me” she asked questioningly. “ I am speaking from the bottom of my heart”, I answered firmly. “You see, when Anny was sick, you sit beside her attending her so carefully, you then worked as a baby sitter, a nurse or even a doctor in a minor way; when you taught Anny English, singing, Chinese poems, you worked as a teacher and educator; When you were knitting a sweater in the midnight , you were surely a conscientious worker…. ” “ can you tell me if there is any other job in the world that is more multi-functional and requires 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , week after the next of hard work, dedication and love?”I really feel grateful for the sacrifice that my wife has made for our family. I can truly say that she has become an expert in bring up baby. My daughter looks very healthy and big for her age and she is cute and clever. I respect my foster mother who brought me up with care and affection. I salute me wife for being such a good mother to our daughter. Again, I believe that mothering is a very important job. The presidents of countries may change the present world. But it is mothers who decide the future of the world. Let us stop using jobless to describe the mothers staying home taking care of babies because their job makes more contributions than any other jobs in this planet.
