What is the thing which English learning matters most?
It has been more than one year since I re-started to learn English last October. What is lucky and to be proud of, I have never stopped learning since it began, and the progress I’ve made is fairly obvious, the grammar, vocabulary, writing skill, chatting experience, hearing…though the progresses are not that significant, but they are a big encouragement to me, and this one-year learning experience seems very heartening to me. My dear teachers and friends, allow me to boldly share something immature here. In my opinion, since the very beginning, many English learners, especially those who are self-taught like me, have paid too much attention to English grammars. Grammars are not our goal, they are only something like skills, techniques. To beginners, those obscure and profound grammars have been always a big obstacle against keeping learning on. What we have to make clear is not all structures and definitions of those tenses, instead, it’s nothing wrong that we express ourselves clearly and exactly without knowing what the tense we are taking. Keep reading as more as we could, the grammar, which appears originally recondite and hard to us, will be getting clearer and clearer, someday it will no longer be a problem at all. Meanwhile, the vocabulary will get larger and larger only if reading is kept on. Don’t care the grammar. Neglect it and keep on reading! Secondly, I don’t think we should have to pay too much attention and energy to avoid so-called ChineEnglish. Chinese has so many dialects and so does English. We can simply consider the ChineseEnglish as a dialect! Why not? Why we are learning English is not for passing those sheer academic and theory-like examinations, instead, the English learning will become more interesting and enjoyable if we consider it as a tool to communicate with others. It’s only a tool, we only need to know how to use it instead of taking all the troubles to make clear how it’s made up or how it is being. Don’t you think it’s a great fun that we talk with others in another language? As one of my teachers, Dove, said, foreigners care more about what you are saying than your speaking skill or whether you can use grammar correctly. However, being able to say some English, even though they are Chinese-styled, is much better than not being able to say any. You are not contented with only such ChineseEnglish? Terrific! Then keep on reading, keep on speaking, keep on learning! I believe, such a day will come to us, that nobody could say any longer you are saying so laughable ChineseEnglish. Is ChineseEnglish really unconquerable? I believe, the answer is no. The prerequisite is we must not fear it. Dear Maryk has ever told me that even a professional native writer needs a proofreader. What excuse do we have to fear the ChineseEnglish? Last but not least, is time so pressing? Is perseverance is so lacking? Time is just like water in sponge, you can easily get some only if you squeeze it. Admittedly, I think perseverance is needed, but when you no longer get the hopes too high, be more practical to your learning goal, then you would certainly find English learning an enjoyable matter instead of a tough task.
What is the thing which English learning matters most? Stopping worrying anything, just keeping your interest and going on learning!
