Dear Friends,
Linda is among the earliest members of this forum. She first came here on May 22th, 2000 and kept posting here for nearly three years. Then on March 19th, shortly after I joined the forum and before we got acquainted, she suddenly disappeared.
She lives in a big city in the south and works together with her husband for the local government. The couple has a son wearing glasses who’s in a primary school.
She majored in mathematics when in the college. Later, she took her second major – statistical inference, a field related to her former major. Her present job aslo involves mathematics.
Though a science student, she learned good English. It was her wish to further improve her English that had led her to the Human Online. She was first active in the website’s chatting rooms. She enjoyed herself there very much chatting with friends in English and practising her English. Then when David set up his forum, she became one of its first members. She writes fine English. Most of her articles here were posted in 2001. Nearly all of her articles are plain, thoughtful and enjoyable. But now, you can only see her articles appear occasionally among the historical hot topics.
Her interests include reading, playing piano and rope jumping. As a result, she knows much about literature and music, with Stefan Zwig, Australian, Turgernev, Russian and the Japanese writer whose Chinese name is 村上春树 as her favourite authors and Tchaikovsky, Bach and Mendelson as her favorite composers. And she shows intense interet in sports.
She’s a sensitive woman. Her temperament is best represented by her article “Wall” (15/08/00), in which she claims that every one needs a protecting wall, whether it is material or spiritual, and calls upon us to thick our walls. Her sentiments can sometimes go to extremes. Look at her wish to another forum member May: Wish you happy every second, every minute, every week, every month, every quarter, every year, every decade, every century and every millennium!
She once loved this forum very much and considered it the “backyard” of her soul, where she could find peace, get “happiness and fun”.
Yet I just can’t believe that she has left her soul “backyard”, which she cherished so much and where she spent so much time grieving and rejoicing, left it deserted for so long a time!
Dear Linda, I’m not writing this article to show off my knowledge about you or to practise English. I want to draw you back! We feel lonely here. Every old member of this forum is a great fine asset of us and we can’t bear the loss of you. Please come back, Linda, come to share your life with us and share ours!
Linda, I searched out all your articles and spent a whole day today reading each, even it is only a single sentence. It’s a long-cherished wish of mine that one day I would make an attempt to call you and some of other old members back.
During the process, I also got familiar with many other names: Dove, Chuckles, Jerome, Cendar, Rain, May…including Panpanpan, Flyheart, who are still with us and Dave, whom I was lucky enough to meet before too late.
All the above friends, where are you? Please come back and continue to write for us.
I beg you!
Best wishes, Charles
