Durham is a small but ancient city in the northeast of England in the UK. The people are very friendly. If you are wondering in the street with a map in your hand, some natives will definitely come up and ask:"Are you lost?" in spite of the fact that you are just enjoying the beautiful scene. But almost everything here is much more expensive than in China if you just judge the value by RMB, however for the natives the prices are all right because their salary is much higher. A card may cost you 3 dollars, which is nearly 50 yuan. A cake is over 10 yuan, while in Shanghai, China it costs only 2 or 3 yuan. You can also meet some Asians including other Chinese, studying, working or visiting. You may enjoy Chinese food in the restaurant, but remember that it's not as delicious as that in China and you will have to prepare much more money.
The obvious difference is the peace and quietness of the city. The roads, made of different material to avoid slipping, are clean, with many green trees on both sides. Buses are equipped with devices convenient for each passenger to tell the driver that he will get off at the next stop in advance by pressing a buttom installed in the poles. People are polite. Even the passengers all say "Thanks" to the driver while getting off. People never shout. Occasionally you can find one or two young men singing beside the street for money.
The most significent place is the Cathedril, which means "big church". It has a history of at least 1000 or 2000 years. Since its building, there have been a lot of damage and rebuilding while most of it is preserved well. It's free to enter but it's prohibited to take any photos inside although no one cheks really.
The University of Durham is quite famous in the UK, even in the world. The students live in the old building.
It's a nice place except that you will probably not like the food here.
