An Inner Cry
I was invited to attend the opening ceremony of a student’s writing association in our college as an honored guest and so called mentor. Here is my congratulatory letter for them:
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends:
Good evening.
First let me extend my warmest congratulations to the writing association on its opening and on the publication of the first edition of their journal “the Rising Sun”. I feel honored to be invited as a member of the association.
I have been nursing a dream of becoming a professional writer since I was very young, and I also try to put what is in my mind into words now and then. In my heart, writing is something very pure, almost a luxury. Only those who have the purest heart and richest mind can pursue this dream. We write about what we experience and what we feel, just as the Chinese phrase “言为心声” shows, writing is like an inner cry of our heart, we cry for what we want, what we dream of, what we are yearning for and what we are sad for. When the words flow out of the bottom of your heart, it touches the readers’ heart. So to write good articles requires a good heart, that’s why writing is a great way to refine ourselves, to improve and to perfect ourselves.
My young friends, you are at such a golden age and you are facing a promising future. Your life here in this brand-new college will definitely be rich, full and colorful. It will be one of the most important stages in your life. So live it, feel it, and write about it with your pen, and your heart. I firmly believe I will not only witness the birth of our association, but also its growing, blooming, flourishing and fruiting.
I am proud of this young association, I am proud of you, all my young friends here, who are so full of energy and so talented.
Once again, let me thank you for inviting me here, to be a part of you, to be young again!!
Yours sincerelyPearl
