The Living and the Dead ---about a curious dream by Mark TwainAnyone reading Mark Twain’s works will be deeply impressed by the humor & satire of this talented & charming American writer ,and of course, I am not an exception.
One of his stories titled a curious dream tells us sth about a very curious as well as interesting experience of dreaming .Dream as he named, it sounds so true, actually too true to be called a dream.It all goes like this: one night, 12 or 1 o’ clock maybe, the writer encounts a dead man, a skeleton in fact on a wild road far away from the city, and he , I mean , the skeleton , is dragging a shabby coffin after him by a string, when seeing the writer, he asked for help, during which he tells him what he used to be & is .He has been in grave for about 30 yrs, in the first few yrs of his staying there,everything is ok, everything is new to him and the prtection and the repairment of the cemetery, were being done perfectfly. Nevertheless, as time went by, everything seems to be changing, actually it has. What used to be, now, is merely a wild land with nothing comfortabelj to our eyes in it, only the indifference and neglet of his sons and grandsons left. And the surviving people are living a happy life with the protperty he earned during his working time, and hi\e himself, as a dead man, has to struggle to move to another place for a better living, whichis what he is just doing as he encounts the writer.
Well, what I said is just one corner of the main ides of the story, actually, u will not experience the real thing of it until u immerse urself in it really. So interesting is it interms of both its theme and language style,that u will surely admire the witer a bit more when u cover one more page.And besides, what M.T. wnna tell us is really thought-provoking.Though this one seems to be telling in sth in the world between the surviving and the dead, it realy reflects some other aspects of our real society world, we should ask ourselves before we take every action: are we royal to our won heart in this very way ? Everything surrounding us all serves as a part of our entire life,. Valuing them also means the same that u will do for urself. Only try to think, eg. There’s sth in our real life that has sth in common with the conclusion the writer wanna draw. Like the enviroment protection, we all live in a circle of like. What will happen if u break one link of the circle even though that’s not u mean to do ? so . .. Take action, Now !
