Hi, guys,
I had KFC fried chicken the other night, which was good as usual, but the price
I paid for it was nonetheless a bit too high.
Early that evening, one of my roommates suggested that the other student and I go to KFC to buy the Tuesday toonie specials and bring her a copy among a few other things from the grocery store in the same area. She was not going herself because she said she got so tired going downtown for bank and school during the day
. However, the boy whom I expected to go together with chose to stay as well, and I had to go by myself.
Out in the freezing coldness, I stood alone and waited for the bus, which seemed
would never come. Or had it come early and passed already? Thankfully, I finally managed to arrive at the shopping area half by bus and half by walk. My first
stop was Safeway, where I got some stuff for myself and my roommates. Then I headed for KFC, about 6 minutes north of Safeway. This alone, was a painful walk. There were not many people lining up there when I stepped in, and a short while later I was loaded with the chicken and gravies and ready to return. As a rule, busses run on longer headway at night and the worse fact is I had just missed one
. Unwilling to wait for long, I decided to walk back home. Five big plump shopping bags in hands, I set out to tramp along the cold, dark, icy, partly snowbound
street. I wore no hat and only a pair of thin knitted gloves. Soon my fingers began to grow numb and the knuckles prickled so much that I had to switch hands for the bags from time to time. Now they had become completely numb, practically
out of control, and I was only halfway home. The easy 15 minute walk in good weather seemed endless at this very night. For the last few blocks I felt I could stand not even a minute longer, otherwise I would freeze. When I at last finished
my journey and mustered up my strength to ring the doorbell, I earnestly prayed
my hands would be OK.
