Good evening, judges and fellow students. Thanks for allowing me to have this opportunity to stand on this stage, right before my graduation. During the past three years staying in the school, I had always been longing to take part in this
kind of contest. And now I get it, so I really should thank you. Today I am going to talk on the given topic: in the year of 2046. Here is my speech.
In the Year of 2046
In 1946, the first computer on earth came into existence, which changed the whole world. Then in 2046, what will happen, will another thing, astonishing as computer, come into existence that will totally change our life? I don’t know. But
here I will talk about four aspects that I do know.
Firstly, environment will change. I still remember the movie Ke Ke Xi Li that I
saw one month ago. But the feeling of shocking it gave me is still vivid as though I saw it just a few moments before. In the movie, as human being, some cruelly killed the rare animals, Tibetan antelope; others, at the risk of their lives,
stepped up efforts to protect the rare animals from being killed. What was the
end? The end was the whole patrol team was killed. What a tragedy!
Honestly, I don’t like this movie very much, as I believe that many things don’
t necessarily go extremes—like it not live, die it will. Following the development of Chinese economy, I believe when the whole society becomes better-off, the
environment will get better improvement in the first place, instead of having to wait after tragedy.
Secondly, education will change. In the year of 2046, I believe the education system will differ from that for the time being. One is that, as university student, we will not have to choose our major right after we come into the university.
During the past three years, I have seen many students complaining about their
major, claiming that only if they could have a second chance.
It says that university life is a very important period in one’s life, if not most. So I believe, as time rolls on, we university students deserve a second chance. We will not have to jump into one field or another when we have no idea what we really want. The school, as well as teachers, will allow and help us to take time and to think of it thoroughly. Then the rest, I believe, is history.
Thirdly, people will change. Last year a CCTV report quoted statistics from the
China Charity Federation indicating that 70 per cent of charitable contributions
to the Federation came from foreign countries or from the Chinese regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, while charitable donation from wealthy benefactors in
Mainland China accounted for less than 15 per cent of the total value of the donation.
The report said that Chinese people, by contrast, were much less charity-conscious. But in the future, I am sure things will change, since far before now we had
realized this problem. And the increase GDP will also contribute to the change.
As the people’s living standard gets improved, combining with other efforts we
put, public consciousness of charity will be raised accordingly,
Lastly, in the year of 2046, I myself will change. One is that I will get older,
much older. I will be at my advanced age, over sixty. It reminds me one article
I read the other day. It says the difference a young man has from an old one is
: the young man has a glorious future before him, and the old one has a splendid
future behind him.
For me, whatever it will be like in the year of 2046, I only hope by then, when
looking back to the past, I can be content without regret, no matter in respect
of myself or the whole society. Then how to achieve this? How to make these glorious dreams and hopes all become reality? That’s the question, and that, I believe, is one of the reasons this speech contest for.
Thank you.
