Being hesitated for some time, finally, I decided to write here again, for nothing but just for learning English. Here is a true story, happening in a small town, which I once read in a magazine. I was moved by it and tried to translate it
into English. Looking forward to the help of anyone of you.
Here is the story.
One day, Mike, an eighteen-year-old boy, was wandering along a small street. Suddenly, in front of the door of a small CD shop, Mike stopped. Through the French
window, he saw a girl sitting there, about the same age as him, with pretty outline drown by the glow of the setting sun. Just at that moment, the girl raised
her head, looking out of the window, which made Mike scared out of his wits, a so strange feeling. With great courage, Mike pushed the door in the end, walking
straight to the counter, behind which the girl was sitting silently.
"Can I help you?" the girl raised her head and asked with a sincere smile on her
face. She is such a cute and lovely girl with slightly warped lips and big blue
eyes. Seeing the sweet smile of the girl, Mike thought of the secret and eternal smile of Mona Lisa naturally. "Yeah, I want a piece of CD", said Mike, handing
one to the girl without thought. She packed it with a beautiful red paper skillfully. Receiving the packed CD, Mike felt a little dizzy by the red-hot color, as if a special feeling in his mind were lightened.
From then on, Mike went to the shop everyday, buying one CD each time. And the girl would always pack it with different color paper, blue representing depression, purple expressing secret, green standing for hope and orange indicating harvest etc.
Finally, Mike told the secret to his mother with great courage. Mike’s mother couldn’t bear to reject her beloved son’s last will. So she encouraged Mike to
go after his love of mirage bravely and began to pray for him quietly everyday.
With the encouragement of Mum, Mike left one passage to the girl when buying CD
as usual, with his name and telephone number on it.
When the girl found the neat handwriting on the passage, she was hesitated for several times, but didn’t dial the phone number in the end. She believed obstinately that love should be expressed in details, just as a concealed stream in the
heart, but not expressed openly.
Everyday, Mike, the lovely boy, was waiting beside the phone. Whenever the phone
was ringing, Mike’s heart would be held tightly. But each time, the result was
disappointing. In spite of this, Mike still kept on praying in his mind silently, hoping that God could bring him a little more time so that he could receive the love echo from his beloved girl. He has suffered from a malignant tumor and was on the edge of death. However, the ring of the girl didn’t arrive all along,
while death befell on the poor bay at last.
Several days later, because of great missing, the girl dialed the phone number with great courage. "May I speak to Mike?", asked the girl shyly. "Mike has left
us forever, seeking for his own happiness in the heaven." When saying this, Mike
’s mother couldn’t help crying in great grief...
One year passed. One day, when mike’s mother was tidying up mike’s room, she found a lot of CD well collected in the wardrobe, all of which have never been opened. To her surprise, when she opened one of them, she found one card slide out
of it, on which there was some graceful handwriting: "Hey, would you like to make friends with me? Jocelynne" Then she opened the CD one by one, in all of which there was one card, with the same word on it. Seeing this, Mike’s mother was
trembling with great astonishment.
On one corner of the cemetery in this small town, there was a tombstone, in front of which there were always many graceful CD packed with different paper, company with the dew at dawn, the sunset glow at dusk and the crying of insects at night. However, could the lovely boy hear this love echo in the heaven? I am wondering...
