Dear friends,
I'm pretty sure that I mentioned that our grand nephew in Germany had to havea serious operation. He's still a baby about a year old, and the sutures in the
bones of his forehead were stuck, and didn't allow his skull to expand properly
. His eyes were getting too close together and a ridge was developingin the middle of his forehead. This is known as Trigonozephalus.
The surgery took place two days ago. It was a marvellous success. Today I sawa picture and he now has a wide, unblemished forehead and looks quite normal except for a big white bandage around the top of his head. The surgeon was the best in Germany for the job.
The baby was supposed to be in intensive care for three days but he was only there for one. The swelling around his eyes that prevented him seeing went down rapidly and he was able to eat. As he began to see again he became happier and happier and wanted to laugh and play. This is a very delicate and serious operation so his recovery is remarkable. We are all overjoyed. :-)))
All kinds of adventures happened here during the visit of our youngest daughter
and her husband and children and that great dog, El Guapo. We were very pleasedwith all of them and their personal development. It's such a pleasure to feel
that your children will be able to help each other and stick together, and that
the grandchildren are all turning out well, even though each of our three children with families have somewhat different approaches to parenting. In all cases
the children were each nursed a longer time than average and have had a lot of parental physical affection and sensible training.
Ben woke our son-in-law at four am, as requested. He brought him a hot towel torefresh himself and a cup of coffee. So everything was gathered and stowed in
the car quickly and efficiently and everybody dressed and ready to go soon. They were in the car and on their way by 5 am and just phoned now at noon from the
ferry. They intend to park on the parking deck from which you can see the ocean
, and one or the other will stay with the dog so that they don't have any messages that "A St. Bernard type dog is roaming among the cars on the lowest cargo deck." Of course, as I said before, he's not a St. Bernard, but an English Mastiff.
Our daughter has what has been diagnosed as Menniere's Syndrome. It affects thebalance and the ears. She would frequently go ten hours with constant dizziness
ringing in the ears and throwing up. She's 50% of their restaurant business so
it caused them a lot of trouble. After every bout she needed the next day to rest and recover.
Her own research took her to a diet very similar to that used by people with Celiac disease. By strict adherence to a non-gluten diet with no caffeine-containing products as well, she has been able to bring the symptoms under control without taking the medication usually prescribed by allopathic physicians. Iadmire them both very much for their achievements.
Well, that's the family story so far, for those who may be interested. I'm on my way to the jewellers to have my Baha'i ring cut off so the finger can have better circulation and heal.
We are going to buy another canopy pavilion to erect on the south deck to protect the big glass window from the sun since the first one has worked out so well.
Now, to a cold soup for lunch, some fruit, and tea, and then we're off!
Affectionately, Mary in Canada
