Never Too Old to Learn
Reading English in a small park in the morning sometimes, I heeded that there
was a female cleaner, mid-aged, covertly staring at me once in a while as if she wanted to talk to me. Finally the chance knocked. “I note you reading English
here almost everyday, “ she stopped to talk to me when sweeping near me, with
an abashed smile, “ Are you a full-time student?” I told her that I was an English amateur and was working around this park. She surprised a little bit, and
continued, “I am in great envy of you, you know what, I was good at English in
the middle school and for some reasons, I gave it up. But now I am too old to learn it.” After hearing her words, I laughed sweetbitterly in silence, because
I am quite sure that the times for her to hear of the saying “Never too old to
learn” is far much more than I do, and because she is old enough not to be admonished like this.
Besides this woman, I don’t think you have never complained about this before. To squeeze a bit of your spare time to think over if willing, however, you will detect that learning anything really has nothing to do with age, but with your perseverance. The following report I watched not long ago is a vivid example.
It was reported that there was a man at his early 60s, out of poverty in his childhood, learning Chinese with many kids in primary school in Sichuan province.
He is already an enterpriser engaged in wood processing and garment so he is also learning fine arts to run his career better. In the school, he kindly advocate “Do it yourself” and tell his classmates who call him grandfather to clean classroom, to help them with study. Unable to spend much time on studying in school, he also listens to VCD to mimic how to pronounce at home. Moreover, he is known as a kind, passionate man in his village. Not only has he led the folks to develop in his hometown, but he has donated lots of money to something useful such as the irrigation projects. He is indeed a respectable man.
Knowledge is as immense as a sea, we explicitly know. Nobody is too erudite to
learn more as nobody is naturally too stupid to learn well. To cling to study,
to bear in mind “Live and learn” and act out, you will personally feel how miraculous the knowledge is.
