English Version
The School of Foreign Languages is an integral part of the Guizhou University for Nationalities. It first started in 1977 as the English Department offering English courses to the entire student population of the university. In 1990 the English Department enrolled its first students in a two-year English education program. In 1995, a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature program was initiated. In 1997 the department split into two independent departments, the Foreign Languages Department responsible for offering classes to English majors, and the College Foreign Languages Department offering foreign language classes to non-language majors. 2004 saw the inauguration of a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Language and Literature program by the Foreign Languages Department. In the same year, as a result of the university’s reshuffle of its various academic departments, the Foreign Languages Department and the College Foreign Languages Department merged into one – the School of Foreign Languages – with two divisions. The former, consisting of the English Department and the Japanese Department, offers 4-year degree programs to language majors, whereas the latter offers English, French and German courses to non-language majors in other schools of the university.
