生平樊先生早年(1977年到1980年期间)身罹痼疾，辗转求医，深知患疾求医之艰辛；痊愈之后，樊先生曾在张光生先生引导下自学中医，1981年参加高考, 以极高的高考分数、唯一的志愿, 入南京中医学院中医系学习。1986年以优异成绩毕业，在南京中医医院（现为南京中医药大学第三附属医院）内科和神经科为医16载，跟随谢昌仁、傅宗翰、张继群等中医先辈、易润昌等著名西医工作、临证，深得所传，积累了丰富的临床经验。其间，曾在南京脑科医院进修。

于1995年到1998年跟随大陆著名中医周仲瑛先生临证三年，中医临床技能得到进一步提高，成为国医大师周仲瑛先生的第12个博士弟子；并在周先生（中医临床）、金妙文（西医临床）、方泰惠（药理）等教授的悉心指导下从事中医药治疗脑卒中（中风）的研究，获得中医临床医学博士学位（相当于PhD in Medical Science）。1999-2000间曾经在长春参加国家中医药管理局组织的全国高级中医医师临床讲习班（每个省只有2-3个名额）。樊先生早年曾跟随夏桂成、孙宁铨等著名中医妇科医师临证，对于中医妇科也有不俗疗效。

在大陆时，樊先生为中医副主任医师、临床副教授、硕士生导师，国家中医药管理局医政司痛症临床协作组副秘书长。是中医神经科作为一个专科的早期医师之一, 曾任南京市中医院神经科主任、也是该院脑血管病中心（现为全国重点专科）以及江苏省中医脑病专业委员会的奠基人之一。

2001-2005作为博士后研究员曾在美国Georgetown University，University of Maryland 医学院从事中医、针灸研究，发表多篇科研论文。现为马里兰大学结合医学研究中心中医研究顾问，维吉尼亚州针灸协会理事会理事。

学术贡献樊先生对于临床急症和疑难病症有独到的研究，善于应用中医药、针灸、推拿等方法。现服务于美京大华府地区（华盛顿、维吉尼亚、马里兰州）。是中医在美国首都华盛顿地区的开拓者之一，不但有不俗的临床疗效、科研和中医教育方面也有较多贡献，在美国和中国主要医学刊物上发表过70余篇论文。创有美京中医针灸医院、美京中医及中国文化中心。

参加编纂过多部中医著作，包括《中医疑难病方药手册》（黄泰康主编）、《中药词海》（黄泰康主编）、《中医内科学》（周仲瑛主编）等，计60余万字。

Dr. Arthur Yin Fan has extensive experience in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) with a focus on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), research and clinical work. He was trained in both Western medicine and TCM in China and the United States. As an acupuncturist and herbologist, he currently heads the McLean Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, PLC. He also serves as a consultant for CAM research, with a focus on TCM, at the University of Maryland medical school's Center for Integrative Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Fan is expert in using TCM as a complementary remedy in the treatment of neurological, endocrinological, immunological and inflammatory disorders, and cancer. Research field: pharmacology and toxicology of herbal medicine and nutrition in the treatment of hypertension, high cholesterol and triglycerides, liver disorders and diabetes.

09/99 - 10/99: Senior visiting scholar (high-level short-term postdoctoral training), National Advanced TCM Physician Training/Research Center, run by the China National Administry of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Changchun, China.

09/95 - 06/98: Study culminating in the Ph.D. in Medical Science, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Coursework in the methodological study of intractable diseases and their TCM treatment, methods and principles; TCM clinical and basic science research, with a speciality in neurology. Nanjing University of (Traditional) Chinese Medicine is one of China's four flagship TCM schools and a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center of Traditional Medicine and WHO Acupuncture Training Center. Mentored by Dr. Zhou Zhongying, one of the top five TCM doctors in China.
