Volume 1
The Road To War:
Missouri Compromise to First Manassas
1820-1861
As America grew, tensions between North and South boiled as both sides struggled over slavery in the new territories.
Under pressure, national political parties fractured, new ones sprang up, and in the chaos a virtually unknown political rose to capture the Presidency.
With Abraham Lincoln headed for the White House, the panicked Southern states secede from the Union, sparking the bloodiest conflict in American history.
Volume 2
Fort Henry To Antietam:
Feb. 1862 - Sept. 1962
Following the disaster of Bull Run, Union troops in the west under General U.S. Grant launched a bold campaign that captured two critical Confederate forts.
Meanwhile, in the east as ironclad warships clashed for the first time, General McClellan unleashed his Peninsular Campaign that ended in failure for the Union.
General Robert E. Lee, after taking command of the Army of Northern Virginia, counter attacked and later invaded Maryland.
His invasion of the north came to a bitter end along Antietam Creek in what became the bloodiest single single day of any American war.
Volume 3
Stones River To Vicksburg
Dec. 1862 - Jul. 1863
After Antietam, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and Broadened the Union's war aims.
In the east, disaster followed disaster from Fredericksburg to Chancellorsville as the Army of the Potomac endured a succession of inept leaders.
In the west, the Union received good news, as Grant's brilliant campaign in Mississippi led to the fall of Vicksburg.
Volume 4
Brandy Station,
Gettysburg and Chattanooga
Jun. 1863- Nov. 1863
Following the Union defeat at Chancellorsville, Lee embarked on his second offensive into the north.
Pushing into Pennsylvania, he stumbled across a strong Union force at the crossroads town of Gettysburg.
Both sides quickly concentrated there, and for three days the epic battle of the war played out in the rolling countryside around the town.
In Tennessee, a Southern counterattack scored initial success at Chickamauga, only to end in disaster at Chattanooga.
Volume 5
Red River To Petersburg
Mar. 1864 - Dec. 1864
In 1864, Lincoln finally promoted Grant to command all Union armies, and in his new role he called for a coordinated campaign against the South.
As much of his original plan came unraveled, his own offensive into Virginia was me with fierce opposition by Robert E. Lee's ragged veterans.
Despite the setbacks, Grant refused to admit defeat and maneuvered Lee into a desperate siege at Petersburg.
With Lee's army pinned down, the South struck back with raids that reached the very outskirts of Washington D.C.
Volume 6
Atlanta, The March To The Sea
and Hood's Counter-Offensvie
May 1864 - Dec. 1864
While Grant grappled with Lee in Virginia, Sherman attacked into Georgia, intent on capturing Atlanta.
After months of cagey maneuvers, Sherman took the city, then embarked on his famous "March to the Sea."
In a reckless gamble to regain the initiative, the Confederates under John Bell Hood launched a counter-offensive into Tennessee.
Which culminated in two of the most decisive battles of the war - Franklin and Nashville.
Volume 7
Fort Fisher To Lincoln's Assassination:
Jan. 1865 - Apr. 1865
In the war's final months, the Union armies roamed through the collapsing Confederacy as naval forces captured coastal forts.
Out of supplies, Lee tried to flee from Petersburg, only to be caught and defeated at Sayler's Creek.
At the Appomattox Court House, General Lee surrendered his army to U.S. Grant, bringing the war to a merciful end.
But the last act remained to be played out as a conspiracy to assassinate President Lincoln unfolded in the days after Lee's surrender.
This release can not be compared with Ken Burns epic series about the American Civil War, just as a supplement.
But I hope you will enjoy
