游戏以现代战争为背景。当美俄双方的冷战打的正火热时，中国逐渐成长茁壮，此时正值世界第二次大战，就在日本忙于应付美国的强烈攻势之时，俄国趁机从日本领土中夺取了附有大量天然资源与石油的”库页岛”，中国开始侵占这块资源丰富的岛，美国最后也被逼迫参加战局，添加了这场”库页岛大战”!!
与上一代作品最大不同在于”库页岛”是真实的地方，开发小组针对库页岛的真实状况，包含了道路，建筑，地形等..做了完整的真实呈现!
游戏引擎使用了最新的「Neon」3D引擎，能描绘真实的光影效果、爆炸、烟雾以下的影片为实机游戏画面的效果. 除了逼真的游戏画面外，游戏中的武器（计划数量将超过70种）也非常遵循弹道系统而设计，同时可在海陆空使用的各种载具也高达30余种!!
单人战役将会加入一种职业进阶系统，随着经历不同的战斗，以及经验的增长，你将会从最低阶的普通士兵成长为指挥官。在一些比较特别的任务中，玩家还可以悄悄的执行，同时能利用狙击gun来解决车辆中的敌人。
在最终的多人连线模式中，包括三种风格迥异的游戏模式：歼灭模式——典型的死亡竞赛模式；前线模式——基于团队进行的占领游戏；渗透模式——听起来像是一种需要精心规划的多人射击游戏。简单来说，一个规模较大的队伍，拥有着较差的装备，他们要面对的则是相对数量少很多却装备精良的小队，尽力阻止自己的地盘被他们占领。
为了表现现代战争的大场面，Codemasters设计了足够大的场景，开始玩家只是一名士兵，随着战争的发展进而成为指挥官，获得士兵指挥权，包括坦克和直升机等单位也将加入作战。结合先进的物理引擎和技术，游戏将向玩家呈现一场真实的战争：游戏中使用动态的天气系统，建筑和环境也都可以被破坏。Codemasters设计了超过30种空中和陆地单位以及70种以上的武器，而武器在使用的时候可能会发生故障。如果士兵被迫击炮和手榴弹炸到，四肢甚至可能被炸飞，血也将渗过衣服流到地上。同时，敌人和队友的AI都获得了极大的提升。
游戏特色
●率领小队完成任务
剧情模式中、玩家需要指挥由各小分队和坦克组成的小队来完成各种任务。玩家既可以指挥歩兵连队、也可以搭乗坦克担当砲撃手。也可以驾驶战斗机进行轰炸任务。游戏中的关键，在于战斗小队成员的人工智能程度，即便是你带领着整个小队步入到危险境地，他们也可以运用自己的能力进行自保。在电脑的控制系统将会通过键盘来实现，而在游戏主机上则是利用了径向系统[radial system]。这也就是说你只需要按住其中一个功能键（译注：比如说PS手柄上的L或R键之类）并且使用摇杆来指挥你的小队。
●真实再现残酷的战场
真实再现现代战争的残酷也是本作的一大特徴。与现实同様、受伤可不能简単就可治癒。救急直升机要是晚点到达的话、也有可能因出血量过多而死。在损害系统上，即便是一颗子弹造成的伤害也会逼真的体现出来，比如说你的胳膊被子弹击中，那么你的行动也不再如之前那样敏捷自如，除非你用急救包进行治疗。

players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of
