昨天开播的 BBC 2009年新剧 Garrow’s Law: Tales from the Old Bailey，说的是18世纪英国律师 William Garrow 的故事。我们现在经常在法庭戏中看到的律师质询证人的唇枪舌剑和高度戏剧效果，都是从这位律师开始的。William Garrow 出身平凡，即使当上了法庭律师，也被贵族出身的法官和律师嘲笑缺乏风度。当时的法庭辩论非常讲究礼节，William Garrow 打破了这个规矩，不仅把当庭质询证人作为辩护的重要手段，而且具有戏剧效果，成为一种艺术。
在昨天播出的第一集中，伦敦刑事法庭 Old Bailey 的外景，显然是在爱丁堡大学的 Old College 内拍摄，这个剧似乎是在苏格兰拍摄，选择Old College 也就不奇怪了。而且 Old College 过去是爱丁堡大学的医学院，现在是大学的法学院，还是满符合主题的地方。

1 :01x01 - Episode 1 (Nov/01/2009)
Garrow loses his first case to his nemesis, Silvester. Lady Sarah Hill is impressed by him though and asks him to defend a serving girl accused of murdering her baby.
2 :01x02 - Episode 2 (Nov/08/2009)
Garrow manages to defend a coachman accused of stealing a harness by his master. Renwick Williams is is arrested after being accused of murdering several young women in London and he is sent to Newgate Prison. After Southgate talks the man's mother he tries to convince Garrow to defend the man in court. Garrow and Lady Sarah grow closer.
3 :01x03 - Episode 3 (Nov/15/2009)
Garrow manages to defend Edgar Cole who is accused of raping one of his servents. Garrow ends up challenging Silvester to a dual after he offends him. After Garrow fires his shot into the ground, Silvester shoots him in the arm to teach him a lesson. When Sarah finds out what has happened she ends up telling Garrow how she really feels about him and they share a kiss. Sarah insists that nothing else can ever happen between them. Garrow defends Tom and Phoebe in court who are accused of stealing and murder. They where carrying out the orders set them by Edward Forrester who is an old nemesis of Garrow. When the shopkeeper's grandson tried to catch them he was killed by Forrester and Phoebe and Tom where accused of the crime. Southgate decides that he can no longer work with Garrow.
4 :01x04 - Episode 4 (Nov/22/2009)
William Garrow is congratulated by Sir Arthur after he successfully defends a prostitute accused of murdering a client. He also lets Garrow know that his wife is going to have a baby. Garrow tries unsuccessfully to get Sarah to leave her husband. Mary Hamer wants Southhouse to get Garrow to help her husband who has been in jail for several months and not charged. After Mary is arrested Southgate and Garrow set their differences aside and become involved in the case.
