作者简介
威廉林赛毕业于英国利物浦大学地质地理专业。1987年，他独自一人步行考察了长城全线，从嘉峪关到山海关行程2470公里，从1990年起他在中国定居，专门从事长城学研究、长城现场考察、长城文化景观保护等工作。2001年，威廉林赛创立了国际长城之友协会，该协会与北京市文物局和世界文化遗产基金会等机构合作，开展长城保护项目。威廉林赛20年如一日，始终满怀激情地从事长城保护工作，其中有1200天用于长城的现场考察。他出版了若干部以长城为主题的著作，包括《独步长城》(伦敦Hodder出版社1989年出版)、《万里长城——亚洲的形象》(牛津大学出版社[香港]2003年出版)等。作为长城保护方面的先驱倡导者和活动家，1998年他荣获中国国务院颁发的友谊奖章，2006年荣获英国女王伊丽莎白二世陛下颁发的大英帝国勋章。威廉林赛与妻子吴琪有两个儿子詹姆斯(12岁)和托马斯(6岁)。
