序言This book is designed to help learners of oral English at an advanced level. The intended readers are medical students, medical professionals, and those involved in hospital management and work who are bent on success and have a strong desire to improve their oral English.

Through dramatization of everyday hospital events and activities, you will see intriguing things unfolding, problems that occur in different departments, especially the pathology department~ debates and arguments in the mortality conference; new ideas that are coming up and the resistance from the old- guards; outbreaks of an ePidemic and the desperate fights in dealing with emergencies.
For the learners to take full advantage of the material, the book has included what the author believes is most needed by the learners. 文摘Relevant Facts1. Standard laboratory checks（标准性化验室随检） are a practice that is well- established in most well-run hospital laboratories. The protocol usually requires that technicians be told beforehand that checks are to be made, and then, at unspecified times, the people in charge carry out spot checks on the work technicians are doing to ensure that proper lab procedures are followed and results are accurate. This practice provides a protection for patients and is a safeguard against carelessness. Conscientious technicians accept lab checks without resentment and as a part of their job.
2. Modern medical care, especially in a hospital, is administered by a whole team of technically trained personnel with attractive qualifications（合格证书）. degrees and diplomas they receive upon completion of a course or program of study.However, in addition to medical knowledge and techniques, doctors may need other skills, for instance, people skills, to be successful. They should be good at persuading a self-indulgent patient to give up cigarettes or salt, convincing a frightened patient that surgery is essential, or encouraging a patient with emotional problems to seek psychiatric help. Besides, experience accumulated over the years is also essential.

1. In hospital laboratories, trained technicians make tests to help doctors diagnose what is wrong with their patients. Laboratory tests also help doctors determine how their patients are responding to treatment. The technicians study samples of blood and body fluids, and send reports to the doctors in charge of the patient's treatment.
