在2007年年底，Michael Gooden 和 Jon Cook 这两位好友决定改变以前对音乐的尝试方向，组成了 Shapes Stars Make。经过几个月对鼓手的寻找，在2008年的夏天，新成员Zach Edwards 加入。此时，乐队终于完整了起来。于是，这支乐队有了三个人汇集融合而成的创造力，情绪，技术。此后不久，三个人开始创作，并安排新材料，准备第一张专辑。
Shapes Stars Make 的音乐是富有情感的独立摇滚，深受后摇滚(post-rock)的影响。他们的歌曲都是精美的旋律和歌词的和谐统一。2008年1月，Shapes Stars Make 和制作人/工程师John Congleton(The Appleseed Cast, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You)一起录制了他们的首张同名专辑。
2009年秋，SSM 签约 San Diego 旗下厂牌，Dreamt Music。不久，他们便进入了录音室去录制他们的最新一张唱片。乐队再次有机会与 John Congleton 继续合作。这张专辑便是《These Mountains are Safe》，发行于2010年1月19日。专辑里的歌曲主要都是演奏，不过个人还是蛮喜欢听人家在那里打击乐器的。
