ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE was born on May 22,1859,in Edinburgh,Scotland,to a prosperous family.His father,Charles,and his mother,Mary Foley,were both well educated and from prominent families.Charles was a sickly man,which made life difficult for the family.However,Arthur later said that what he remembered most of his childhood was his mother's gift for storytelling.
After his son Kingsley and sevral relatives died in the First World War,Doyle devoted the rest of his life to spiritual practices.He died on july 7,1930,of heart disease.
