文摘Mr. Smith来到广州与厂商的代理Ben继续商谈购丝绸事宜。Mr. Smith以公司小、资金周围有困难为由,希望Ben能够接受托收作为付款方式。
B:Welcome to Guangzhou! Nice to meet you.
S: Glad to meet you, too. What a good day! I hope you' ve got good news to me.
B:Well, I can hardly say that.
S: What' s the reply you got about the terms of payment from the manufacturer?
B:As you know, the silk they produce is of superior quality, and they usually have large orders at hand. They often give such accommodation as using D/P or D/A to their regular customers or customers with orders worth more than US $ 5,000.
S: I see. They don' t want to make an exception for this deal.
B: I' m afraid it is, though I have done what I can. They insist on an L/C to be opened with a bank satisfactory to them.
S: To tell you frankly, an L/C will inCrease the cost of our import, and we also have to pay a deposit when we open a letter of credit. Maybe it makes no difference to them, but it does to us.
B:The best way is that you may talk with your bank to reduce your deposit to the minimum.
S: But I do hope you avoid putting us to so much trouble in establishing an L/C.
B:As you know, an irrevocable L/C can give the exporter an additional protection of the banker' s guarantee. And this is what we usually follow in our imports.
S: Such being the case, we' II open an irrevocable L/C in your favor 30 days before shipment.
B:Thank you for your understanding. May we have a successful cooperation.
