媒体推荐"Going to town" is now a conscious everyday pursuit and buzzword forgenerations of Chinese farmers, distinct from earlier narratives about thecountryside and its people. The rural-urban interchange of people has longbeen a natural phenomenon, yet such a large-scale migration into the citiestruly must be a first in history, even as it advances into the conscious andspontaneous collective relocation it has become today.

文摘The Foreign Languages Press has long devoted itself toenhancing mutual understanding between China and the restof the world. China followers in every country probably stillremember Panda Books, mainly published in the late 20thcentury. Those books collected a wide range of contemporary Chinese literary works. The Panda Books series helped manyChinese writers become known to the world. 21st CenturyChinese Literature can be regarded as the continuation of PandaBooks, though its selection and editing methods vary greatlyfrom the old series. All the volumes of new short stories wereedited by Chinese scholars, with in-depth understandingand research in contemporary Chinese literature, whosejudgment and views are highly respected among Chinesewriters and readers. They accomplished this editing workindependently, conducive to this new series better reflectingthe highly diversified .spiritual quests and artistic creativity ofcontemporary Chinese literature.
Thus, the other vital impact of this series is to provideinternational sinologists and Chinese literary researchers with theview from inside, from within the Chinese literary circles widelyrecognized among Chinese writers and readers. These pointsof view are likely to differ from the general views held by other countries toward contemporary Chinese literature. It is this very difference that engenders the great potential for new knowledge and discovery.
Modern Chinese writers have been deeply influenced by lit- erature from all over the world. We have been deeply convinced by Goethe's concept of "World Literature."
